TCS China Onsite Salary Structure | TCS Onsite Salary Components In China | TCS China Tax Regulations

TCS China Onsite Salary Structure - TCS Onsite Salary Components In China - TCS China Tax Regulations

I work on payroll of TCS Shanghai and on deputation. It is observed in our salary slips that we are only provided one component as BASIC SALARY, hence we are required to pay tax on the full amount. As per China tax laws if an employee is paid HRA and he provides a legal invoice (fapio) the same can be allowed as deduction reducing tax liabilities of the individual.

Here is an e.g.

Say an associate earns a salary of 35000 CNY in Shanghai. In this case the whole amount is provided as basic Salary. The tax calculation will be as under

35000-4800= 30200.

China tax regulations provide standard deduction of CNY 4800 to all expats hence the same is deducted so the taxable salary comes to CNY 30200.

The rates for tax in China are as under :

Slabs                  Rates                   Quick Deduction
<1500                     3%                     0
1500 to 4500           10%                   105
4500 to 9000           20%                    555
9000 to 35000         25%                  1005
35000 to 55000       30%                   2755
55000 to 80000       35%                  5505
>80000                  45%                  13505

In the above case the tax would be

  • 30200*25% = 7550 – Quick Deduction of 1005, hence the taxable income would be CNY 6545

Now assume that the salary is having a component of HOUSE RENT which as per china tax law is deductible as mentioned above.

The tax payable would be as under. Assuming he gets HRA for 6000 CNY.

35000-6000-4800 = 24500

24500*25% = 6125 – 1005, net tax payable would be CNY 5120.

From the above it can be seen that each associate can save a minimum of CNY 1500 per month if the same is being implemented. If the same is calculated on a year basis it turns out to be CNY 18000 per annum which is not at all a small sum. It is hard to believe that many Indian companies in China provide this benefit to their employees why the same is missing in TCS.

Guide To Increase Performance Of Complex Query – SQL Optimization Guide

Guide To Increase Performance Of Complex Query | Tips for writing more efficient SQL | SQL Optimization Guide

It is not so easy to optimize a complex query & decrease the load on SQL server. Here I am giving some good guide to increase the
performance of a  complex sql query. If you are a basic sql user & want to tune your complex sql query, please follow the below optimization tips.

Use minus instead of EXISTS subqueries –

  • Some say that using the minus operator instead of NOT IN and NOT Exists will result in a faster execution plan.

Index your NULL values –

  • If you have SQL that frequently tests for NULL, consider creating an index on NULL values.  To get around the optimization of SQL queries that choose NULL column values (i.e. where emp_name IS NULL), we can create a function-based index using the null value built-in SQL function to index only on the NULL columns.

Leave column names alone –

  • Never do a calculation on an indexed column unless you have a matching function-based index (a.k.a. FBI).  Better yet, re-design the schema so that common where clause predicates do not need transformation with a BIF

Avoid the use of NOT IN or HAVING-

  • Avoid using NOT In or HAVING clause in your SQL query, instead, a NOT EXISTS subquery may run faster (when appropriate)

Never mix data types -

If a WHERE clause column predicate is numeric, do not to use quotes. For char index columns, always use quotes.
There are mixed data type predicates:
where cust_nbr = “999″
where substr(ssn,7,4) = 9999

Use decode and case –

  • Performing complex aggregations with the “decode” or “case” functions can minimize the number of times a table has to be selected

Use full-table scans when necessary –

  • Not all OLTP queries are optimal when they uses indexes.  If your query will return a large percentage of the table rows, a full-table scan may be faster than an index scan.  This depends on many factors, including your configuration (values for db_file_multiblock_read_count, db_block_size), query parallelism and the number of table/index blocks in the buffer cache

Use decode and case –

  • Performing complex aggregations with the “decode” or “case” functions can minimize the number of times a table has to be selected.

Rewrite complex subqueries with temporary tables-

  • Oracle created the global temporary table (GTT) and the SQL WITH operator to help divide-and-conquer complex SQL sub-queries (especially those with with WHERE clause subqueries, SELECT clause scalar subqueries and FROM clause in-line views).  Tuning SQL with temporary tables (and materialization in the WITH clause) can result in amazing performance improvements.

Re-write NOT EXISTS and NOT EXISTS subqueries as outer joins –

  • In many cases of NOT queries (but ONLY where a column is defined as NULL), you can re-write the uncorrelated subqueries into outer joins with IS NULL tests.  Note that this is a non-correlated sub-query, but it could be re-written as an outer join.

Weather and seasons of the year in Poland | Travel Guide Of Poland

Girls skiing in poland Holiday travel - Poland Skiing Guide

If you are planning to visit Poland and you are not afraid of cold weather – visit Poland in winter. What do I mean by “cold weather”? Definitely not +8 C degree! If you can bare temperatures below 0 – you can even think about staying there for longer. If you are getting married to a Polish lady/gentleman by any chance – you can even think about living there and not freezing to death: P!

Let’s assume you are very lucky, and while visiting my country you get a lot of snow and some sunshine. What to do with this unknown white substance?

Poland in Winter - Poland Travel

First of all – just enjoy it! Why? It might melt in one hour if the temperature drops suddenly – which is likely to happen. Especially now – in the global warming era. So just go for a walk to a nearby park or a forest and just admire the purity of everything that surrounds you. In south India, where I live now, you can get some snow only in shopping malls for 300 INR per half an hour: P. So admire it – when you have it – for free :P .

If you are a little bit more courageous and you are looking for a truly authentic winter holiday experience – go into the mountains.  There are cosy villages where you can take delight watching the scenery, breathe the crisp mountain air and take it easy.  It is an ideal place to visit if you want to enjoy winter without the crowds and commercialism of the larger European ski resorts. It would be a great place for sport enthusiasts of ski or snowboard too.

For a truly fun loving Indian, I would suggest a slightly different experience – to have a sleigh ride (in the worst case scenario – sledge ride from the closest slope) with your friends or colleagues if they have a soul young enough to do so :) .

Even if you fail to do this, at least make attempt to create a snowman – especially if you visit Poland with your kids. They would love it!

Poland Transport in Winter - Poland Holiday guide

Despite the joy, there are things that you must pay attention to. So remember to keep your body warm when you are outside, especially in Jan and Feb – the coldest winter months. At this time the temperature might drop to – 20 C degrees which is even cold for us – Polish. Also the days are very short so remember about it while planning your day.

Happy winter Polish day :) !

TCS Female Associates Attacked in Hyderabad | Woman Safety in Hyderabad – A Real Incident

TCS Female Associates Attacked in Hyderabad-Woman Safety in Hyderabad

In the light of the heinous incident that occurred in Hyderabad last week, I want to share a few words. Maybe not of wisdom, but ones that definitely helped me stay safe:

1. After 8 pm, prefer the road transport buses to the shared autos and cabs. They may delay you but they offer a margin of safety.

2. If you have to board an auto or cab, move to its front and note down the number of the vehicle so that the driver can see you are noting down his vehicle’s number. If you tell the driver you did so, even better! ( I have done this so many times that people thought I was paranoid. Still, I would say it is better to be paranoid than hurt or traumatized.)

3. Buy a pepper spray!!!! It gives you immense confidence to walk alone and it it a good self-defense mechanism. It is pretty powerful, trust me, It was sprayed before me and the suspended particles were enough to make my nose burn and cough a lot!! (In Hyderabad, they are available in Health n Glow outlets and also you can order them online from healthkart.com)

4. Install any of those women safety apps that they advertise about. It wouldn’t hurt to download them.

5. If a man is leching at you or trying to misbehave, start screaming at him. He deserves it! It will at least stop the man from troubling you any further.

6. Other useful tips to remember I have read but not from my personal experience -
a. Use your TCS ID card to wring the neck of your assailant if he happens to be the driver.
b. Dial 100 and start screaming.
c. Remember you can hurt your assailant and I am sorry if I am crossing a line of propriety – Target his sensitive areas with your knees and your elbow is pretty powerful to hit a man.

7. We should not be carefree by chatting on mobile, playing games, talking over phone / sleeping. Pay an attention till we get down from the cab / taxi.
8. Try to stick to the same route that you travel every day.
9. Better to inform family when you onboard, and expected arrival.
10. Update your family if there is a significant delay because of traffic / road conditions. Need transparency among our family, where we are going, what we are doing, when will come back.

I just wanted to share these pointers and hope it helps!

TCS Female Associate Gang Raped Sexually Assaulted and Killed in Chennai | TCS Siruseri – Horror Place To Work For Girls

Uma Maheshwari TCS - TCS Female Associate Gang Raped Sexually Assaulted and Killed in Chennai-TCS Siruseri - REAL Horror Place To Work For Girls

One more TCS female associate was again brutally killed in Chennai. It is suspected that she was sexually assaulted and gang raped before stabbed to death.
The dead body of Uma Maheshwari was found in the SIPCOT IT PARK , Siruseri . The 24 year Old TCS employee was reported to be missing since last week (13 th February) . She usually goes by cab and leaves by 11 pm . On the day she was claimed to be missing , she has not used the cab and has also left early . She has preferred to walk to the bus stand from TCS office which is approx 2 Km. The distance is not so much but the place is not Quite safe . Most part of the Sipcot IT park , esp close to the entrance are just covered with bushes on either side and are completely isolated.

Tamil Nadu Police Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) on Tuesday arrested two people in connection with the murder of Uma Maheshwari.2 construction workers have been caught and have confessed the gang rape and murder. 2 others are still at large. This is the second time in as many months that a TCS female associate has met with the same fate…..Rape and then brutally burnt alive.

The place that I just mentioned are used by local people , drivers for boozing . I Work in night shift and I have seen women employees walking alone in the night . Such acts are very unsafe . Its very painful to pen down about the demise and that too of a colleague from the same office .
Dear all , please be more careful . Think before doing something . In this case , If Uma has either used cab or waited for the public transport , she could have averted the incident .
Lets pray for her soul to rest in Peace .

The news has come as a blow to the society again. The sudden demise of this young associate has again taught everyone to be safe and secure, but as usual for only a few days. After a couple of days, all that carelessness, casual attitude and freaking independence will exploit the minds and all again everyone would start their normal lives which they have been used to. This is not only a matter of safety for women, but for all humans. Till date, we have got so many instances that a moment could change our as well as our families’ lives. Being brave, confident, independent is not at all a bad thing but when we are traveling alone late nights or early mornings, then who is the audience of this bravery….NOONE. There’s a simple point, do everything what you want to but not at the cost of your own safety because you might not be worried about yourself, but people around you, people in your life are every moment caring for you. Just think about them before taking any stupid step. At the end, would wrap up by saying that Precaution is always better than Cure, because mates these days we don’t even get a chance for Cure.Be Safe and Keep your beloved always in your mind.

Booming: Television News Channels in India

$

0

News programmes have suddenly become hot property and are vying for attention with other popular programmes telecast in different channels. All major television broadcasters are including at least one news channel to their bouquet. The biggest headache for launching a satellite channel is programme software for round the clock. In this juncture, newsgathering is a major task for the 24-hour news channels. To cater this task, the emerging electronic channels have always made an attempt to cover all the incidents irrespective of position, location and time. These channels not only revolutionized the concept of news on Indian television but also changed the news formats. Before 1990s, Doordarshan had monopolized newscast on Indian television and also turned the news programs into a dowdy exercise. Now the private channels made the news an essential commodity like food, cloth and shelter. The strong point of all today’s news bulletins is their topicality, objectivity, glossy editing and high-quality visuals. News has traveled a long way from the DD era. From Local events to International events, breaking news to news analysis, television soap to page3 news, every happening comes under purview of news. In this article, we have covered some significant changes in news broadcasting in India before and after the Gulf War.

Indian Television – Flash Back

Television in India is undergoing significant changes in the current liberalized environment. To understand these changes, one needs to have some brief idea of the road covered by the television channels so far. The journey started as an experimental basis with a financial grant from UNESCO in 15th September 1959. The makeshift studio at Akashvani Bhavan in New Delhi was chosen for location of the experiment. The experiment started with one-hour program, broadcast twice a week, on community health, citizen rights, education and traffic sense etc. As far as news is concerned, it was launched exactly six years after the inception of television broadcasting. Daily one-hour program with a news bulletin was served to the Indian viewers. But one major drawback of television was that you could not enjoy the original colour of the objects because of black and white transmission. First multi-color programme was the Prime Minister’s address to the nation from Red Fort in Delhi on India’s 35th Independence Day. In the same day, DD National channel was launched. The aim of launching the National channel is nurturing national integration, and inculcating a sense of pride in Indians. Indian viewers also enjoyed the colored version of the Asian Games hosted by New Delhi in their drawing room. The coverage of major events and different occasions lend a big hand behind the infiltration of television signals to the nook and corners of the subcontinent. Indian Government had taken all possible steps to expand the television broadcasting demographically and geographically. In 1983 television signals were available to just 28% of the population, this had doubled by the end of 1985 and by 1990 over 90% of the population had access to television signals. In 1984, DD Metro channel was added to provide an exclusive entertainment for the urban viewers. In the beginning, this channel was confined to metropolitan cities.
As a public broadcaster, Doordarshan presented the news in naturalized manner. All controversial issues were pushed under the carpet. The ruling government had a strong hold on the television broadcasting. Doordarshan news bulletins were unable to provide the international news to the national viewers. Objectivity had been the first casualty as news was invariably slanted to suit the party in power. The news was liberated from the confines of the DD newsroom and gained in objectivity and credibility when New Delhi Television (NDTV) produced ‘The World This Week’ in 1988. Everyone was waiting for the Friday night to watch ‘The World This Week’. This was the only India-based programme, which looked out at the rest of the world. The World This Week was the best current affairs programme on the international scenario and carried good stuff of news, which the regular DD news was failed to carry out. This program is ranked as one of the country’s finest and most popular television shows. In 1989, NDTV produces India’s first live televised coverage of the country’s general elections. The critical and commercial success of the coverage sets a new standard for Indian television. After the Gulf War the media panorama has changed forever.

Media Education: A Necessity

$

Ever since the media world has come into existence, new ways of its influences in its daily life has been seen. What was considered to be a boon has been realized to be a bane in many ways. The use of the media is often mired by controversy too. Here are a few quotes which makes us ponder about media’s role and its influences. These quotes were by famous people and perhaps signify how media has deviated from its intended path to another completely new one.

“Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.”Richard Salent, former president, CBS News.

“We live in a dirty and dangerous world. There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn’t. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets, and when the press can decide whether to print what it knows.”Katherine Graham, Washington Post publisher and CFR member. Thus we see that a similarity trend arises. People seem to interpret the use of media in their own ways, ways which will be of benefit to them. People with the power in their hands feel as if they are the authority to decide what to show and what not. When the press has an agenda, it is bound to be not wholly fair and just, as it was originally intended to be. Somewhere, down the line, human emotions, human wants, human intentions, greed, selfishness has come around to prohibit the working of a free press. Just as a utilitarian economy is a dream, a free just press is also nothing short of that.

The very essence of creating the press has been tarnished. As Hugo Black, Supreme court justice of The United States had rightly said:

“The Press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of the government and inform the people. Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government. And paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people.”

The media has failed to deliver in its promise of impartial reporting, unbiased writing and true delivery of facts to the public. In this scenario, believing in the facts of the Media and acting upon them can not only be hazardous but may be injustice to the one on whom the action is being taken. The influence of media on young minds are even the more so. This is because young minds are just getting to understand the world and how it functions. Young minds thus can be moulded more easily than adults who have formed more or less fixed opinions on a variety of issues, going by experiences, circumstances and need and wants.

Today’s world is as different from the yester years as chalk and cheese. The world today has hi-end products and a new definition of lifestyle. A consumer culture exists now which was unimaginable even a century ago. In this scenario comes the various forms of print – the digital, the print, the audio and the internet.

Good News Or Bad News – And The Difference Is?

Ever had someone give you bad news? How about good news? What’s the difference or is there a difference?

Good news – stuff or information that makes us happy, content, reassured, secure and validated.

Bad news – the opposite.

So, it would appear that there is a difference between good and bad news – read on.

Have you ever gotten bad news but in the end things turned out well or better than you anticipated? Have you ever received good news and over time what you thought was good news ended up being not so good?

From personal experience I can tell you that I have experienced all four –

Good news that was good.

Bad news that was bad.

Good news that I thought was good but ended up being bad.

Bad news that I thought was bad and ended up being good.

Confused yet? Well I know that over time I was often confused about the difference between these two apparent opposite messages. But then I learned that sometimes bad news for one person can be perceived as good news for someone else and that good news to one person over time can be perceived as bad.

Confused? Let me explain.

In the end it’s just news and what makes it bad or good or even neutral is not the news itself but how we perceive it, judge it, evaluate it or react because of it.

How can someone perceive bad news as good you might ask? Or the opposite, how could someone perceive good news as bad?

In brief – each of us has a unique history, experiences, beliefs and values and as a result none of us ever see the same thing or circumstance in the same way.

Someone who is a worrier, negative, pessimistic or impatient might see a delay as bad when another person who understands the concept of there are things we can control and there are things we can’t control so why get all upset about something you can’t control or if you can control it get busy.

In the end everything that happens – just happens and what we do is interpret it all based on our expectations, goals, needs or mindsets and all of these are unique for each of us.

Let me give you a couple of personal examples. And if you will consider the explanation even though you may not have had exactly the same circumstances, if you will think about it I’ll be you can relate.

Prior to staring my speaking and training career I was a national sales manager for an international organization. Long story but the short side is I had an issue with my boss, the president and as a result he fired me. Bad news, right? Well that was all I needed to decide it was time to begin a career that has lasted over 40 years and has allowed me to see the world (25 countries to date) and work with some tremendous clients and audiences. So in the end this bad news was really good news.

Here’s another quick one.

Years ago I proposed to my wife and she said yes. Good news right? (No judgments here please). Well over time after doing my best for more than fifteen years I decided that it was time to end it and why? Well, without the gruesome details, the relationship was gradually eroding my self-esteem, confidence and optimistic mindset and I decided that I didn’t like who I was becoming in that relationship. We parted, amicably – but we parted. Good news as I was able – over time – to regain all I had lost – emotionally and spiritually.

How To Start A Newspaper

Despite the inability of the daily subscription newspaper to fight effectively against the news outlets on the internet, starting your own newspaper can have tremendous influence and financial benefits. Read on to find out how to start your own newspaper.

DECIDE ON THE DIRECTION OR FLAVOR YOUR NEWSPAPER WILL TAKE

A general newspaper may not succeed well when competing with local subscription newspaper companies. That is not to say it won’t if you can offer something unique and well received. Either way, it is important to know what flavor your paper will take.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  1. Will my newspaper be targeting a specific niche of the public?
  2. Will my newspaper be predominately newsy, political, or general help?
  3. Can I start a newspaper that does not compete with other papers in my area?
  4. Do I want to compete with local newspapers?
  5. Is my newspaper going to cover local news and how will I report on current events?
  6. Do I need to hire freelance reporters?
  7. Should I charge for a subscription?

In today’s market, a subscription newspaper is more difficult unless your content is unique. If you are merely reporting the news, most people can get that from a casual search on the internet. But if you are providing articles on marriage, parenting, self-help, computer issues, product reviews, store reviews, or so forth, getting a subscription base is feasible although not recommended.

Either way, you need to know the direction you plan to take with your newspaper. A church, for instance, can produce a newspaper with Christian related articles and content. A cook or owner of a restaurant can produce a newspaper filled with articles on food, cooking, and recipes. If you like to shop, you could ask local business for free samples of their product in exchange for a review of their product that will be distributed to the local area.

Determine what flavor, niche, or direction you intend to take with your newspaper. Once you determine that, you will have a better idea of what you are up against with your competition.

DETERMINE THE DISTRIBUTION SIZE AND FREQUENCY OF YOUR PUBLICATION

Know the population of the area you intend to distribute your paper. If you live in a tiny community, you may find yourself not only without competition but without a distribution plan that is feasible.

For a community of 50,000 people you will need to produce a minimum of 10,000 newspapers. Producing 20,000 for the same population is feasible if you have a good distribution plan.

You will also need to know how often you plan to produce your newspaper. Clearly, a daily paper is tremendous work and requires a large staff to keep up with good content, design, distribution, and so forth.

I would recommend once a month or quarterly to start. As your newspaper gains credibility and recognition, you can decide if your paper should have a more frequent distribution.

SEE TO THE LEGAL ISSUES

Be sure to check your local city and state regulations for your publication. If you already own a business, you can simply attach the newspaper to your business entity. This may solve most of your legal issues automatically because you have already jumped through the hoops.

If you intend to start an autonomous newspaper, you may have to register the name with the Secretary of State where you live, obtain a business license, and if you intend to sell advertisements in your paper, you may need a soliciting license.

Answers For the Newspaper Industry

If you are reading this you have an interest in the future of the newspaper industry. This was written to document my experience and thoughts about a drastically changing industry and to hopefully stimulate serious discussion in finding solutions for our most trusted source of news. My entire career has been in the print media industry: from my first agency job working in yellow pages to my latest role as Associate Media Director managing the budget for a major newspaper advertiser. I have never worked for a newspaper, nor have I worked for a newspaper advertiser, however for over eight years I purchased over one billion dollars in newspaper media, from the largest major dailies to small market weeklies. I was caught between the excuses of declining circulation from publishers and frustration from the advertisers over a once stable media currently portrayed to be in chaos.

I witnessed newspapers caught off guard with the viral growth of online news consumption and their inability to take advantage of the phenomenon. I have been in some brutal multi-million dollar contract negotiations that rarely ended well for the newspaper.

While it was my job to secure the lowest possible rates while advertisers were slashing their print budgets, I knew the cuts and harsh negotiations were killing the industry that provided me with work. I was instructed to negotiate agreements that I felt truly benefited neither advertiser nor publisher. I have heard every publisher new idea from changing print design layouts to renting e-reader devices to sell content and I have yet to hear a game-changer.

While I am probably considered young to the newspaper industry, I do have traditional reading habits. I am a huge fan of fiction and read as much as time allows. The Kindle and other e-readers are brilliant devices offering brilliant distribution models, but I still do not own one. I love the feel of a book in my hands and truly enjoy shelving another completed edition to the collection. Will I eventually buy a Kindle? Probably. But I will hold out as long as I can. And magazines offer an experience that cannot be duplicated on a website. I only read a handful of magazines that fulfill my top interests; sports, science and current affairs.

A website cannot offer a sense of completion from flipping from cover to cover and I actually enjoy looking at print ads in magazines (however, I am an ad geek). When it comes to hard daily news I trust only one source…newspapers. But I don’t read them in print. I prefer consuming my news from discussion boards and reading headlines from newspaper websites across the nation. If I want to discuss the gubernatorial race in Illinois, I want to read about it from the local newspaper, not from a cable news show and not from an online blogger. But the only way to conveniently read this valuable source of content is from their website…for free. I am a prime target for newspapers and they are struggling to take advantage of charging me for their content and lose out on capturing my readership for their advertisers.
